Freeman Vanson are a group of Musicians based in London , United Kingdom . The individuals within the group started playing music with each other at around 2012 - From then on started composing original songs .
The first song that they ever worked on was ‘Portrait ‘ which was recorded in London , United Kingdom in February of 2014 . However the musicians started recording in earnest around the end of 2015 and beginning of 2016 - and by the end of 2016 had their album ‘ Gilden Garden ‘ ready .
Gilded Garden is a Compilation album - but there is an underlying thematic current that runs through it . From Portrait to Tower - the songs represent a journey that , as the lyrics of Portrait suggests , represents a trial by fire , a loss of innocence , the burden of realisation which then acts as a harbinger of a turbulent but yet lyrical journey .
The very last song on this track ‘Tower ‘ acts as the end of this journey - a sense acceptance and realisation that has all the opportunity to turn in to bliss .
The E.P ‘ Salivating Sun ‘ with three original tracks - ‘Incantation , Idiot and Sargasso , is in one way a repetition of the journey represented by Gilded Garden ( the same journey and the same destination have several vantage points) but In this case the journey doesn’t have a closure - as the last original track in the E.P ‘Sargasso ‘ doesn’t give us one . It’s a different type of journey - where one learns that there are no easy answers and hence here the end simply compounds the sense of mystery, which in turn creates dissonance along with an eery and unsettling form of beauty . This E.P repeats the proposition of Gilded Garden that there is more to life than it seems - and that can be both enchanting but also highly perplexing and in Some cases terrifying -
But through all this may come a sense of renewal , the space for renewal may come . In effect all these songs are life affirming - as one can say every journey is .
The latest release - a double track single is somewhat different from the first two . The two songs here are ‘Pendulum ‘ and ‘Twelve ‘ are basically the two stages of the same trip - they are in effect a microscope in a moment in time .
While the previous songs often deal with the reality that meaning can be thrust upon with you in a manner that unsettling - the two song here ‘Pendulum’ and ‘ Twelve ‘ deal with the yearning of meaning - a yearning that is borne out of a sense of wistfulness and listlessness . A yearning that is borne out of an impending sense of banality .
It is this sensibility that is out under intense scrutiny with these songs .
Another thing that must be commented upon here is Freeman Vanson’s use of lyrics and Guitars to give both character and meaning to songs .
The lyrics are more than words just to fill the gap . They play their part in manoeuvring Music to a certain destination . The Guitars themselves have a certain lyricism - as they enable lyrics - in both its contents and in their agency .
For Freeman Vanson , at the end of the day - this Music is simply to make moments existent more meaningful - also it is also about the sheer fun in craftsmanship which true songwriting is .
It would be highly gratifying if the listeners shared in all of the above mentioned sentiments .
